Where Is God?
As I pondered what has happened lately in my life that has God’s fingerprint, I made a list of events from which I would select one to write about. Well, I liked the list so well I thought I’d write about each of them. Genius!! 🙂
Karen and I flew to Portland, Oregon to see our son Scott, his wife Michelle, and our two grandsons — Aiden (9 years), and Theo (4 years). The two days went very well. Scott and Michelle are the consummate hosts. Anytime you can have family time is a gift from God. On our flight home I became very anxious on the flight. My intellectual brain knew nothing was wrong with the plane. I decided to do something about it. I found a Fear of Flying class and went. More later.
Karen went to France to attend a silent retreat. We decided I would fly over and meet her in Assisi, Italy. We love Assisi. Some friends even met us there. Here is the part where we revisit the Fear of Flying Class. The tools of distraction and positive thinking work well. I arrived in Rome without any medication. I bought noise canceling head phones and downloaded eight movies on my iPad.
I met Karen in Assisi with a great reunion after having been apart for two weeks. The two weeks we spent in Assisi were very enjoyable, seeing the sites of St. Francis and St Clare. Each time we have visited, we have discovered something new. We found a mass in the lower level of the Basilica of St. Francis. Assisi is such a spiritual place. We have been there now three times and hope to return again later this year.
We had one week left so we went to Pompeii. What a fabulous experience. A lot of the town has been restored, so you can see how the people lived right up to the eruption August 24, 79 CE. The last four days of our trip, we went to Rome and stayed once again at Hotel Fiume. The fun thing we did was ride the on/off bus for two days. We were able to see many sites…there isn’t room for them here. I will say Rome is a very special city with so many beautiful churches.
So you may wondering, “The travels sound nice, but where is God in this reflection?” For me God was everywhere. None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for God’s grace. I pray you may feel the same.
