The End is Just a New Beginning
“Here we are at the end of another year. We will gather with family and friends and pop the champagne at the stroke of midnight and sing “Auld Lang Syne.” That song means times long past, and the eighteenth-century poem was a time to reflect on all the blessings we have experienced and a time to reconcile any conflicts so that we can start new. This time of year, it has me reflecting on what a year we have had and what the future is to hold as we journey into 2022.
If someone else were to write a book about your year, how would it go? This question forces all of us to take an outside perspective on reality. How would your story go? It is a great reflection question for all of us to think about this time of year.
I always enjoy reading the Christmas cards that get sent out with the traditional letter of other people’s reflections of the past year. We get to see who graduated from college and who got engaged or married. We get to see about those who moved into new homes or started a new job. All of them end with the wishes of hoping we all have a blessed New Year. A time for a New Beginning.
As a Christian, I also want to see how I am doing with my spiritual life. How would God view my life this past year? What did I do that was pleasing to him and where do I need to work a little harder so that others can see that I am a true disciple for the Lord? Is my prayer life where it needs to be? Do I show through my words and actions, that God is the main priority in my life? As we begin this new year, it would be a great time for us to make a commitment to the one who has blessed us with everything we have and hold. Let us make our Sunday worship a priority. I encourage you to gather with a community of believers to give thanks and praise to God.
For me, our worship together on Sunday is a time to reflect and renew; to be lifted in song and praise and get the encouragement I need to bring the voice of God’s love to our world. I am excited to see our Church filling up again, and it is my hope that as the seats are filling up, that hearts are changing, and growth is happening so that the Lord is very pleased with the story of our lives.
I wish all of you a very blessed and Happy New Year. May we always be there to reflect on the past and see the many blessings God has granted us on the journey of our lives. May this year, and every year always be pleasing to HIM.
